If your institution has deployed eduroam, you can seamlessly connect to a secure, trusted wireless network at thousands of hotspots around the world. Rather than relying on unsecure, “open” Wi-Fi networks, you will seamlessly and securely connect to eduroam wherever it’s being broadcast, including at airports, campuses, libraries, museums, and research facilities.

eduroam significantly reduces your operational load for managing visitors’ Wi-Fi access and eliminates the need for creating temporary user accounts. And if those visitors need tech support, help is provided by their home institution’s IT department.
Most important, eduroam mitigates the security risks of open SSIDs on your network and provides a secure roaming experience for your campus visitors that protects devices from snooping and other man-in-the-middle attacks.

As the Canadian operator of eduroam, CANARIE manages this authorization and authentication process between your home institution and the one you are visiting – whether it’s with a partner school’s campus in your city or at a research facility on the other side of the world.
Launched in 2020, eduroam Visitor Access (eVA) is a companion service for eduroam. It makes it easy for institutions to provide secure, temporary Wi-Fi access via eduroam to visitors that are not from an institution that participates in eduroam.
As the host institution, you’ll have full control over the length of time these visitors can access your eduroam network. You can also delegate the ability to create eVA accounts to others within your organization, taking the admin load off the IT team and making it easier for office managers, event hosts, and other trusted staff to manage access for their visitors.
eduroam CAT lets you configure a profile using secure methods to connect to legitimate authentication servers operated by your organization. When your students, staff, and researchers apply this profile to connect to eduroam, their devices and credentials will no longer be at risk of interception attacks.
