Dr. Sasha Luccioni

Dr. Sasha Luccioni is a leading scientist at the nexus of artificial intelligence, ethics, and sustainability, with a PhD in AI and a decade of research and industry expertise. She is the Climate Lead at Hugging Face, a global startup in responsible open-source AI, where she spearheads research, consulting and capacity-building to elevate the sustainability of AI systems. Dan Riskin
Biologist, Science Journalist, Author & Television Host
Dan Riskin is a renowned evolutionary biologist, award-winning TV presenter, and bestselling author dedicated to igniting curiosity worldwide. As the co-host of Discovery Canada’s Daily Planet, host of Animal Planet’s Monsters Inside Me, and Science and Technology Specialist for CTV, Riskin captivates audiences with his passion for science.
A bat movement specialist with a PhD from Cornell, Dan has conducted research at Brown and Boston Universities, famously putting vampire bats on a treadmill. He is the author of the national bestseller Mother Nature is Trying to Kill You and the children’s book Fiona the Fruit Bat.
Known for his humor and charisma, Dan has been a guest on shows hosted by Anderson Cooper, Jay Leno, and Craig Ferguson, who called him “my favorite scientist.” Dan’s keynotes and TV appearances go beyond scientific facts, inspiring audiences to embrace their own journeys of exploration and discovery.
Dr. Moshe Szyf
Geneticist, Chief Executive Officer & Chief Science Officer | epiMedTech
Dr. Moshe Szyf is a retired professor of pharmacology who held a GlaxoSmithKline and James McGill Chair in Pharmacology at McGill University. Szyf pioneered research in DNA methylation for the last three decades, having published more than 330 papers on the topic, and also pioneered epigenetic pharmacology in cancer and the field of behavioral epigenetics. Szyf’s studies provide a molecular link between the environment and genes and between nurture and nature that had a wide impact on the social sciences and psychiatry.
Szyf founded Methylgene Inc. in 1994, the first company in the world dedicated to developing DNA methylation drugs. In 2016, Szyf founded HKG epiTherapeutics Ltd. (currently called epiMedTech Global), which develops a novel class of epigenetic diagnostic markers for early detection of cancer and other diseases. He is the Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Executive Officer of epiMedTech, as well as a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
Dr. Kumanan Wilson
Chief Scientific Officer | CANImmunize
Dr. Kumanan Wilson is the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of CANImmunize, a tech company specializing in immunization software. He is also the CEO and Chief Scientific Officer at the Bruyère Research Institute, which focuses on care for aging Canadians and vulnerable populations.
Dr. Wilson practices General Internal Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital, is a full professor at the University of Ottawa, and a Clinical Research Chair in Digital Health Innovation. His research spans digital health, immunization, and public health policy, with support from CIHR, WHO, the Gates Foundation, and Canada’s Immunity Task Force.
Mark Wolff
Chief Technology Officer
Mark Wolff was appointed Chief Technology Officer of CANARIE in 2013, after joining the team as Senior Director of Technology Innovation in 2011.
As CTO, Mark is responsible for ensuring CANARIE continues to drive the transformation and evolution of digital research infrastructure to serve Canada’s research, education, and innovation communities. Mark’s collaborative approach, coupled with his expansive technical knowledge, has supported the evolution and impact of CANARIE’s portfolio of programs and services. Responsible for CANARIE teams in network operations, research software, research data management, identity and access management, cloud technology, and security, Mark’s leadership supports the cross-pollination of best practices and the strategic deployment of innovative technologies, with a clear focus on the needs of end users.
Prior to joining CANARIE, Mark held innovation, development, and leadership positions at Newbridge Networks, Alcatel, and Meriton Networks. Mark holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and holds several patents in telecommunications. In his spare time, you can typically find Mark with a guitar in hand.
Danielle Wood
Associate Professor and Director, Space Enabled Research Group | Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Danielle Wood is an Associate Professor at MIT, with joint appointments in Media Arts & Sciences and Aeronautics & Astronautics. She leads the Space Enabled Research Group at the Media Lab, which promotes sustainability on Earth through space-enabled designs, with a focus on equity and accessibility in space technology.
Danielle’s expertise spans satellite design, earth science, systems engineering, and technology policy. Prior to MIT, she held roles at NASA, Johns Hopkins, and the UN. A member of the International Academy of Astronautics, Danielle co-chairs its Space Traffic Management Committee and co-edits Acta Astronautica.
Danielle has received numerous honors, including a National Science Foundation CAREER grant, recognition as a Bloomberg New Economy Catalyst, and induction into the Black Women’s Executive Leadership Fellowship.
