CANARIE Welcomes Tatiana Kozbenko to its Board of Directors

[Ottawa, ON | January 25, 2023 ]

CANARIE welcomes Tatiana Kozbenko to its Board of Directors as a Girls on Boards Young Director. Girls on Boards is a program of Fora: Network for Change, that places trained, mentored, and community-minded young women and gender-diverse youth on non-profit governance boards across Canada.

Tatiana is a recent MSc graduate from the University of Ottawa, having just completed her thesis in Biology with a specialization in Bioinformatics. Her research work has focused on creating a comprehensive knowledge model summarizing the health effects of deep space travel as a member of an interdisciplinary collaboration between uOttawa, Health Canada, the Canadian Space Agency, and NASA. Passionate about science communication, Tatiana has participated in various community outreach initiatives like youth education through Let’s Talk Science, volunteering for the Science Teachers of Ontario Association, and through her role as editor for the uOttawa departmental magazine, BioMatters. She takes every chance she gets to explore Canada’s wild places and looks forward to a career at the intersection of policy and science application.

“I extend a warm welcome to Tatiana and look forward to working with her on the CANARIE Board in the coming year,” said Sylvie LaPerrière, Chair of the Board of Directors. “This initiative to mentor and help build real-life governance skills in the next generation of professional women and gender-diverse youth is a very welcome one and supports CANARIE’s journey toward a strengthened culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.”

CANARIE’s Board of Directors is comprised of individuals from industry and academia. Directors bring a variety of skills and experience to the Board, and their backgrounds in the academic, institutional, private, and public sectors ensure CANARIE’s programs and services anticipate and effectively address the evolving needs of its research, education, and innovation stakeholder communities. Directors are elected for one-year renewable terms, and all Directors serve on at least one standing committee of the Board.
