Events Manager

The Events Manager is accountable for organizing and executing CANARIE’s hosted and sponsored events, with the goal of engaging and connecting with our stakeholder communities.

This is a full-time, permanent position that reports to CANARIE’s Director, Communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of CANARIE’s hosted and sponsored events and meetings from
    concept to logistics execution, ensuring alignment with organizational and program goals.
  • Leverage project management skills to orchestrate smooth event operations and proactively
    anticipate and mitigate potential risks and challenges.
  • Lead the project and program development teams for each event, ensuring a high degree of
    collaboration and communication among project team members, staff, event management
    partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Analyze post-event survey results and leverage data analytics to inform strategies and make
    data-driven recommendations for future event programming.
  • Manage relationships with CANARIE’s event partners, including suppliers, key stakeholders,
    sponsors, partner organizations, and attendees.
  • Collaborate with External Relations colleagues to identify and employ an effective mix of
    communications and marketing channels and tactics to increase event visibility and attract a
    diverse and engaged audience.
  • Manage and monitor the annual conference and events budgets and maintain strict control of
    all expenditures and revenues.
  • Participate in the selection of vendors, suppliers, and sub-contractors to secure appropriate
    venues and services for events in collaboration with CANARIE’s event management partners.
  • Manage procurement of event-related materials and services.
  • Occasional travel is required.
  • Other related duties and responsibilities, as required.

You have excellent oral and written communication skills, and can count time management, problem solving, and managing multiple priorities as your strengths. Relevant experience in publicly funded not-for-profit organizations is desirable.

Bilingualism is preferred.

What You Bring

Education and Experience

  • College diploma or university degree in an event management-related field, or a suitable
    combination of education, experience, or other relevant training.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in event and conference management,
    particularly as showrunner/lead in event execution.
  • Demonstrated experience in conference management including developing, implementing, and
    managing projects to meet timelines, budget, and deliver on objectives.
  • Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) designation an asset.
